Gun sales in the Commonwealth of Virginia reached a record high in 2013,
according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Virginia State Police recorded almost 480,000 gun transactions in 2013,
breaking the old record of 432,000 set the year before. The sales of 2013 are
the highest since Virginia began registering criminal background checks for gun
sales in 1989.
Virginia Commonwealth University assistant professor Thomas Baker said that the recent gubernatorial election of Democrat Terry
McAuliffe, who favors increased restrictions on purchasing guns, could lead to
even higher sales in 2014.
